KADA Products

1. Paddy Commodity

Paddy cultivation is the main commodity in the Kemubu Agricultural Development Authority (KADA) area. KADA targeted increasing paddy production to 320,000 tons with a yield rate of 6.0 tons per hectare over an area of up to 54,000 hectares to achieve a national self-sufficiency level of 70% by 2020. Increased paddy production is being pursued through initiatives such as the following:

  • Ladang Merdeka refers to a centrally managed, technology-driven commercial paddy farming initiative aimed at modernizing rice cultivation.
  • Paddy Estates or clustered farms refer to farmer collaborations operating rice fields collectively under the guidance of KADA
  • The High-Yield Paddy Project targeting 10 tons per hectare provides guided incentives to selected groups of farmers to achieve a production level of 10 tons per hectare, serving as a model for other farmers to emulate

2. Agro-Based Industrial Commodities

The KADA region has strong potential to become a major producer of agro-based products due to its abundant raw materials and existing entrepreneurial expertise. The development of agro-based industries will be enhanced bymore agri-entrepreneurs, creating new products, and upgrading existing ones, positioning KADA as a regional food producer.

Emphasis will be placed on large-scale, technology-driven production to ensure high-quality outputs, along with improvements in packaging, labeling, and expanding promotional and marketing initiatives to reach broader markets.

3. Non-Paddy Commodities (Vegetables)

Vegetable production within KADA areas will be increased to meet market demands. Priority will be given to cultivating high-value and promising crops such as chilies, tomatoes, cabbage, bitter gourd, and eggplant, along with herbaceous and industrial crops. To boost productivity, the use of hybrid seeds and biotechnology will be expanded and promoted among farmers.

4. Non-Paddy Commodities (Fruits)

Fruit production will be intensified with a focus on commercializing high-value varieties suitable for both domestic and export markets. Key fruits include mangosteen, papaya, pineapple, watermelon, melon, mango, jackfruit, guava, citrus, banana, and emerging commodities such as dragon fruit (pitaya). New cultivation areas will be developed, and existing orchards will be rehabilitated to improve overall productivity.

5. Non-Paddy Commodities (Livestock)

Livestock production, including beef cattle, goats, chickens, ducks, and quail, will be expanded to enhance overall agricultural output. A collective of livestock farmers, entrepreneurs, and private enterprises will be encouraged to actively engage in commercial-scale, technology-driven animal farming. More suitable and strategically located areas will be developed for this purpose, including incentive-based farming and feedlot operations, to improve efficiency and productivity.

6. Non-Paddy Commodities (Aquaculture)

Freshwater fish farming in cages and ponds will be promoted to increase production of freshwater fish and boost farmers' income.

Focus will be placed on high-value freshwater species. Additionally, encouragement will be given to the production of high-value ornamental fish such as goldfish, koi, discus, and arowana. Efforts will also strengthen the capacity for fish seed production, including cage-reared fry, fingerlings, and quality feed supply for fish farmers.
