Paddy cultivation is the main commodity in the Kemubu Agricultural Development Authority (KADA) area. KADA targeted increasing paddy production to 320,000 tons with a yield rate of 6.0 tons per hectare over an area of up to 54,000 hectares to achieve a national self-sufficiency level of 70% by 2020. Increased paddy production is being pursued through initiatives such as the following:
- Ladang Merdeka refers to a centrally managed, technology-driven commercial paddy farming initiative aimed at modernizing rice cultivation.
- Paddy Estates or clustered farms refer to farmer collaborations operating rice fields collectively under the guidance of KADA
- The High-Yield Paddy Project targeting 10 tons per hectare provides guided incentives to selected groups of farmers to achieve a production level of 10 tons per hectare, serving as a model for other farmers to emulate
